The incorporation of the CIF Lourizán takes place in the context of its collaboration in the analysis of new resin stimulants on Pinus pinaster Ait led by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) within the project SustForest Plus.

The CIF of Lourizán has disinterestedly provided a novel salicylic-based stimulant formulated and developed by the Centre itself for testing during the SustForest Plus campaign in 2018. The tests carried out on the plots proposed by the UPM have yielded very positive results, so the formulation will continue to be tested in the next campaigns with the aim of validating its possible use by resin producers in southern Europe, and for its possible evolution and improvement.

With the incorporation of the CIF Lourizán the consortium of SustForest Plus reinforces its competences in a very significant way, both in terms of scientific capacity and in territorial representativeness, since with it the project gains presence in the autonomous community of Galicia.

Currently, the CIF Lourizán is developing several projects related to research in the resin sector aimed at adapting different methods of resination to the conditions of the Galician mountains, improving productivity, the multifunctionality of forest areas, forest genetics, planning, forestry and forest protection. Its contribution to the project will be important for its participation in the lines of improvement of stimulant compounds and in the dissemination of results of the project in its geographical area.

The project Sust Forest Plus SOE2/P5/E0598 "Strategy and collaboration networks for multifunctionality, conservation and employment in the territory of southern Europe through resin extraction" runs from 2018 to 2021, is co-financed by the Interreg Sudoe Programme through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union and aims to improve joint management methods of natural resin sources in the Sudoe territory as a strategic and preferential resource for industry, job creation and the rational use of natural resources.
